Navigation System
A system based on DVD technology which makes it easier to drive when you have a particular destination and are travelling in an unknown area. The desired destination is selected by pressing a few buttons. A male or female voice will then give you driving instructions in good time before each turning. At the same time further information is shown via the display. This is known as turn-by-turn guiding. The system is also equipped with short cuts on the display menu, for the most frequently used functions. To avoid road works, accidents or other traffic flow disruption, the system can suggest alternative routes thanks to the RDS-TMC (Traffic Message Service). The 6.5” wide screen display shows your exact position. You are guided along your route by a large arrow which shows you in which direction to drive (1). In addition to being able to see the distance and driving time remaining to your final destination, you can choose whether to be guided there by the fastest or the shortest route. Before a long journey, you can choose to program in up to seven way points. In addition to choosing a street address as your destination, there is a long list of other facilities to choose from, including tourist sights, hotels and restaurants. If you do not know the name of a restaurant, for example, you can search through a list of the nearest facilities in the area. The telephone numbers of the facilities are shown beside the addresses, so you can phone ahead and reserve hotel rooms or a restaurant table. If you leave your planned route, you can automatically choose a new route if you want to. In certain markets the system can be upgraded with a TV receiver (2). The antenna for the TV is integrated into the rear windscreen. If the car does not have this particular windscreen it must be replaced. There is a demonstration mode (in real time) for exploring and demonstrating the RTI system, which can be used when the car is parked, to simulate a car journey. Choose from the following languages for text and sound: Swedish, English, German, Danish, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese. The control unit is based on DVD technology, so only a few disks are needed to cover the entire road network.
